CLASS-PRO: Pilot implementation completed with teachers at the centre of professional development
We are delighted to announce the completion of the pilot implementation of the European project CLASS-PRO, in which Latsia Gymnasium participates as a partner. The conclusion of this phase marks a significant step in putting the project’s results into educational practice, as it moves the programme’s tools from the development stage into the real environment of the school classroom, where they are tested, evaluated and improved by teachers themselves.
The pilot implementation: structure and process
During the pilot implementation, teachers had the opportunity to make use of the programme’s online training, to study the educational material and to take part in the activities of the online courses hosted on the Moodle platform.
The process comprised:
- Self-directed study of the educational material and of the units of the online learning pathway.
- Participation in the activities of the online courses, featuring practical exercises, case studies and reflection tools that connect theory with everyday school practice.
- Trial application of selected strategies and techniques in the real classroom environment.
- Systematic feedback through evaluation questionnaires and structured discussion, providing observations and recommendations for the improvement and final shaping of the project’s tools.
This methodology ensures that the results of CLASS-PRO are not the product of academic design alone, but are co-created with their end users , the teachers who will apply them in the classroom.
The contribution of the teachers of Latsia Gymnasium
The participation of our teachers at Latsia Gymnasium was particularly significant. They took an active part in the pilot implementation, applying the programme’s material and contributing their experience and suggestions to the evaluation and further development of the project’s results.
Their participation was valuable in two respects. On the one hand, the teachers tested the proposed strategies in practice, identifying what works in this specific school context and what requires adaptation. On the other, their observations drawn from many years of teaching experience and fed directly into the process of improving the material, from the clarity of the instructions to the design of the activities and the flow of the online platform.
What the feedback showed
The response from teachers was highly positive, confirming the pedagogical value and usefulness of CLASS-PRO. The main points that emerged from the evaluation concern:
- the clarity and practical applicability of the material, which can be used directly in the classroom without extensive preparation;
- the flexibility of the online training, which allows teachers to study at their own pace alongside their teaching duties;
- the relevance of the material to real challenges of everyday school life, particularly with regard to managing classroom dynamics and supporting students with diverse learning needs;
- the value of reflection as a tool for professional development, through activities that encourage teachers to re-examine their own practices.
Why it matters
The programme constitutes an important professional development tool for teachers, offering contemporary strategies and practices that support classroom management, the development of inclusive approaches and the creation of positive learning environments for all students.
The significance of this approach forms part of a wider European policy framework. The European Education Area and related European Union policies recognise the continuing professional development of teachers, inclusive education and wellbeing at school as decisive factors for school success and for reducing early school leaving. CLASS-PRO contributes to these priorities with concrete, tested and freely accessible tools.
Next steps
We are very encouraged by the outcomes of the pilot implementation and are continuing with the exploitation and dissemination of the project’s results, with the aim of strengthening the education community and improving the everyday school experience.
The period ahead will include:
the finalisation of the project’s results based on the feedback from the pilot phase;
- the free provision of the educational material and the online learning pathway to teachers and schools;
- dissemination activities and multiplier events to present the results to the wider education community.
We invite teachers, schools and education stakeholders to follow the project’s progress and to make use of the CLASS-PRO tools in their own practice.
Acknowledgements
We warmly thank the teachers of Latsia Gymnasium for their participation and their contribution to this important European endeavour. Their experience, their time and their critical perspective are the most essential factor in the project’s success.
